Dear Norm
Proof that a church planting movement is genuine and sustainable is if their success in evangelism and church planting is transferable to other Christian organizations. In July, the Free in Jesus Christ Church Association (FJCCA) had the privilege of training 40 Thai believers and 10 missionaries from the IMB, OMF, Mennonites and Covenant church in North East Thailand.
When those that were trained returned to their own province they started using what they learned. Most have had more success in wining people to Christ now than they did past. PTL!
This month we trained 30 members of the Mahachon Church, a Baptist church in Chiang Mai. This church has a great desire to lead people to Christ but has been frustrated in their lack of fruit. Over the past five years they have attended virtually every evangelism training seminar given in Chiang Mai. These seminars are usually taught by people from countries such as the United States, Korea, Philippines, Singapore and India. Even with all this training they were not able to produce much fruit.
A big difference in the FJCCA’s evangelism and church planting principles is that they are contextually relevant and easily understood by Thai people. This is something someone from another culture would not be able to do.
After we finished training the Mahachon church members went out and produced fruit immediately. In one week they led over 100 people to Christ and they add new believers daily. (The names, information and pictures of the new believers have been entered into a database so they can be easily followed up.) This church has never experienced this type of success and are excited how effective they have become in leading people to Christ.
