July 24 2025 Update from the Martin's in Thailand
What do forgiveness and healing have in common?
July 24, 2025
 Dear Chris

I used to struggle with the story in Mark 2:1-12, where Jesus heals a paralyzed man. The man clearly wanted to be healed, but Jesus told him, "Son, your sins are forgiven." At the time, I didn't realize that healing the sick and forgiving sins are connected, in fact they are the same thing. They both show that the Kingdom of God has arrived.

This is what Jesus proclaimed when He began His ministry in Mark 1: "The Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the Gospel!" In the Kingdom of God, there is no sin and no sickness. Jesus came to heal both and He still does.

The stories below share how people's lives were transformed after meeting Jesus through an Association of Free Churches in Thailand evangelist. They experienced both miraculous healing and the forgiveness of their sins. We hope these accounts are a blessing to you.

Blessings,

Life Shattered, Then Reborn: Wasita's Story

"If anyone ever told you life can fall apart in an instant... I understand that truth profoundly, because it happened to me."

My name is Wasita, I'm 42 years old, from Si Thep District, Phetchabun Province.

One day, I suddenly fell ill. A blood vessel in my brain ruptured, and everything in my life went dark in a split second. When I woke up, I couldn't move. My right arm, right hand, right leg – even my mouth was paralyzed.

I went from living a normal life to being unable to speak, walk, or even manage a smile in the mirror. Silence and pain consumed my heart daily. I felt worthless, like I was no longer useful to anyone. I used to walk, talk, and laugh, but that day... I became utterly helpless. I couldn't even cry.

The silence in my heart was deafening. I lay still in bed every day, feeling like time was slowly taking my spirit. Only one question echoed repeatedly: "What value do I have left?"

A Glimmer of Hope

Then, one day, God sent a ray of hope. An AFT disciple maker visited me and invited me to church. He simply said, "I don't know if you've ever heard of Jesus... but if you have nowhere else to go, He will be your way." I don't know why, but my broken heart stirred. I decided to go to church, weak in both body and spirit. As soon as I was inside, I found a love I'd never encountered anywhere else. Strangers who didn't know me loved me, prayed for me daily, and held my hand even when I couldn't speak.

I began to pray silently every day: "Jesus... if you can hear me, I want to walk, I want to speak, I want to know if I still have value."

A Miracle Unfolds

And He heard me. My right fingers began to move little by little. I started to support myself, to utter simple words one by one. Though my voice was still unclear, every word was a miracle. Every step I could take was a gift from heaven.

Today, I can walk, and my right arm, leg, and hand are much stronger. My speech isn't perfectly clear, but it's so much better than before that I still tear up when I look back. And something I never even dreamed of... today, I have the opportunity to be part of the worship leading team, singing praises. My voice may not be as clear as others', but every word I sing is a voice of faith, the voice of someone who deeply understands the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

I also go out to visit others with the ministry team, becoming God's hands in other people's lives, even though I was once just a person lying still in bed.

Jesus didn't just heal my body; He healed my shattered heart, restoring its value. I'm not just someone who recovered from an illness; I am someone who received "new life" from Him.

If He could help me, He can help others too, and that's why I want to share my story. Jesus is real. He loves me... and He loves you too. Thank you, God, for never abandoning me. Thank you Jesus for giving me new life again.

A Journey from Darkness to Light: Mae Somploy's Story

Mae Somploy, Is a 78-year-old woman from Ban Thaen, faced a profound darkness in her life. Her world gradually faded as her eyesight failed. Blurred vision stole the faces of loved ones, the path ahead, and even the simplest objects. Each day was a struggle, every movement an immense effort. She felt her life slipping away, her spirit dimming alongside her sight.

A Beacon of Hope

One day, an AFT disciple maker came to her house and offered a simple yet profound message: "If you have problems in life, Jesus Christ can help." These words pierced through the fog of Mae Somploy's despair, a tiny flicker of light in the encroaching darkness. With a fragile hope, she decided to place her trust in Jesus.

Transformed Vision, Restored Heart

Her decision to accept Christ and be baptized brought about a remarkable transformation. Not only did her heart undergo a profound change, but her blurred vision slowly began to clear. Mae Somploy started to see the beloved faces around her once more, the vibrant sky, and the promise of a new day. Most importantly, she saw the boundless grace of Jesus Christ.

"I used to be blind," Mae Somploy reflects, "not just with my eyes, but with my weary heart. But today, I can see how much He loves me."

A Life Guided by Light

Now, Mae Somploy attends church every week, her heart overflowing with joy. Her life isn't without its challenges, but she no longer faces them alone. Jesus Christ didn't just heal her eyes; He breathed new life into her heart.

With every breath, she expresses her gratitude, testifying that "Jesus is real, and He still performs miracles today." She proclaims, "Jesus didn't just heal my eyes; He changed my whole life. From despair to hope, from darkness to light, from a lost life to a life guided by Him."

Mae Somploy's heartfelt message to everyone is clear: "If you can't see the way forward today, know that Jesus can be your eyes."

A Voice in the Silence: Mae Khing's Story

Mae Khing, 63, is from Bang Rakam District, who has lived a life filled with silence. Not a peaceful quiet, but one born from profound hearing loss. She'd relied on hearing aids her entire life, yet even with their help, it often felt like crucial sounds were missing. She never truly heard the symphony of nature, the full resonance of loved ones' voices, or the "voice of God" in the way others did. This reliance on hearing aids often left her feeling isolated, as if she existed in a world too quiet, struggling to truly connect with others. In moments of despair, God felt distant.

A Whisper of Hope

One day, a friend who had found faith in Jesus told her, "Jesus can heal you from everything." Mae Khing was skeptical at first; past pain had made her doubt what she couldn't see. Yet, a tiny spark of hope led her to attend a church service.

That day marked a turning point. During the worship, God spoke to her through someone praying. As the prayer unfolded, she felt a gentle touch, as if Jesus Himself was beside her, tenderly caressing her heart with unconditional love. Then, a faint sound, not from this world, reached her ears. It was Jesus' voice, calling her name and saying, "My child, you will be healed from all that pains you."

With a newfound faith she never knew she possessed, Mae Khing prayed, asking Jesus to heal her ears, to enable her to truly hear His voice and the voices of those around her. As her prayer concluded, a powerful energy surged through her body. Her ears began to feel awake, clearer. While not perfectly restored, what she did hear was the unmistakable sound of Jesus' love and healing.

A New Symphony of Life

Her life was forever changed. She began to hear sounds she'd never truly experienced before: the gentle whispers of nature, the loving voices of those who cared for her, and most importantly, the guiding and blessing voice of Jesus in her daily life.

Though immensely grateful for the healing, Mae Khing couldn't help but feel a tinge of regret that she hadn't found Jesus sooner. If only she had met Him earlier in life, perhaps she wouldn't have endured years of isolation caused by her hearing loss.

Yet, she understands that no matter how much time has passed, the most important thing is that she found Jesus now. He taught her that it's never too late for healing and transformation.

Today, Mae Khing looks back with profound gratitude. Even with the lingering regret of not finding Him sooner, what truly matters is that she has found Jesus now, and her life will never be the same. He has given her a love and hope she never knew existed.
