Dear Kirk

It is truly an amazing site to see the body of Christ in action. I am sure you have heard about the massive flooding we have had in Thailand these last few months. They are calling it a “fresh water” tsunami. Over 600 lives have been lost and damages of several billions of dollars. As I write this email there are areas in Bangkok still under three feet of water.

A little over a week ago I received an email from an OMF missionary friend, Marten Visser, who told me he was working with flood relief in Bangkok and was running out of supplies. In his email he stated that   “Many churches are hit by the floods as well. At the same time they are trying to show the love of Christ through their actions in their communities. This is a time to come together as the body of Christ. There are efforts under way to get flood relief bags to churches so they can bless the people in their communities. “

By making a few calls to leaders of the international churches in Chiangmai and the superintendent of Grace International School, God brought together hundreds of Christians in Chiangmai to provide food and supplies. On Sunday around 450 relief kits were put together and sent to Bangkok in a six wheel truck to be distributed on Monday (today). These goods are to be given to flooded churches in Bangkok who in turn will be able to show the love of Christ by giving them to those in need in their community.

Without the help of Christian brothers & sisters in Chiangmai, these churches would not have the opportunity to share Christ's love in this manner. Approximately 3,000 pounds of food and supplies are being distributed to needy families.

To God be the Glory,

Dwight & Mary Kay Martin
Chiangmai, Thailand

PS.   After we sent our last email in September many  have asked if  we were affected by the flooding in Chiangmai.  Praise the Lord our office did not have any problems.  Some of our staff members had flooding issues but nothing compared to the problems in Bangkok.

Also please be in prayer for Dwight as he leaves for Seoul Korea this evening.  He is attending the Global Network of Center's of World Missions. Pray that this will be a beneficial time of both learning and sharing.  To learn more about  the purpose of is meeting click here .
